Welcome to Glasgow Uni Sailing Club!

We provide all the sailing activities at Glasgow University - whether you're a complete novice or an experienced racer. We sail at Bardowie Loch (directions) just 10-15 minutes drive from Glasgow where we have all the necessary equipment and use of small collection of boats, including 6 Fireflies, 3 Larks, a Wayfarer and several Picos. Further afield on the clyde we make use of Sonars and j80s for keelboat sailing.

If you have any questions and are interested in finding out more about the club don't hesitate to get in touch.
Take a look at the FAQ, and see what GUSC has to offer you.

Beginners
We more than welcome beginners, (everybody has to start somewhere, where better at uni, its more or less free!) With several experienced instructors on hand we can teach you from scratch, or perhaps help you brush up on what you learned on holiday 5 years ago. Open Sailing is on Wednesdays afternoons, meet at the GU steps at 1pm. Afterwards at 8pm we meet at our sponsor pub Curlers for drinks and free food, then it's onto Viper for vip entry!

Dinghy Racing
If you like to take your sailing a bit more seriously, we compete regularly in both the Scottish leagues (SUSA) and British leagues (BUSA). This past year we've had a 3 dinghy racing teams, a couple of match racing teams and a yachting squad. The Scottish racing calendar consists of 3 league weekends, the SUSA Dinghy Championships (3 days of hard partying), the SUSA Yachting Championships and the SUSA Match Racing. When we qualify, which is always expected of Glasgow teams, we go down south to the British finals and compete against the top uk teams.

Yachting
If you prefer big boat sailing, we arrange an annual club (booze) cruise as well as racing in our yachting and match racing teams. We have access to the Sonars at the Royal Northern and a j80 on the Clyde. Also arrangements are often made for Glasgow University sailors to crew on local yachts on the Clyde.
