GUSC 2008 Annual General Meeting

By Pistol
8th April 2008

On April 18th Glasgow Uni Sailing Club will host it's Annual General Meeting for 2008. It'll take place in the GUU at 5:30 onwards, then we'll head out for dinner afterwards.

The committee will report to the club's members on it's work over the past year, and then a new committee will be elected.
The positions available are:

- Commodore
- Vice-Commodore
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Men's captain
- Ladies' captain
- Yachting Convenor
- Beginners Convenor
- Bosun
- Social Secretary
- Webmaster
- Sponsorship secretary

Any member of the club is eligable to run for a position, except for Commodore which requires one previous year in any position on the Committee. Nominations for each position will be taken, and if there is more than one nominee there will be a vote to decide.

There's much more written about this in the Club's Constitution, which does exist somewhere, just not here.

And, just as important as the above committee stuff, is the time honoured tradition of the GUSC Trophies. They are as follows;

The Sharking Trophey - Awarded for demonstrating exceptional bravey and dis-regard for sexual health in engaging with the opposite sex, acheiving the highest number of kills.

The Fuck-Up Trophey - Awarded for showing oustanding skill, competence, and leadership in absolutely nothing you have ever done.

The Chunder Trophey - Awarded for excellent marksmanship in the art of vommitting.

The Propping-up-the-bar Trophey - Awarded for possesing excellent skill and determination in the aquisition of alcoholic assets.

The Handyman Award - Awarded for going above and beyond the call of duty in commanding vehicles, and repairing boats, and supplying vitally needed duct tape to their fellow unit.

Nominations may be made to Esme.

Sailors go Skating!

By Kirsty
3rd December 2007

Instead of open sailing next week (12th December) we are going to go to Glasgow on Ice and go Ice Skating again!! Last year it was chucking it down with rain and so we were the only people on the Ice. It was good value for money because they let us stay on longer than we should have!! Anyway it will be £5 (students) for 45 minutes on the Ice and this includes skate hire. Please can you let me know by THURSDAY at the latest if you plan to come with us so I have an idea of numbers for the booking. You can tell me tomorrow night if you plan to come or e-mail me back. I won't be at the pub on Wednesday night as I have an exam on Thursday but you can let someone on the committee know and they can inform me. I will e-mail out further instructions once I have a time and a travel plan.

See you soon!
Kirsty

Uhh, I dunno who's flat yet.
And I forgot what time Esme told me...

GUSC's new sponsor is The Loft!

By Esme Wilson
05th July 2007

I am very pleased to announce that THE LOFT is GUSC’s new and very lovely pub sponsor. The Loft is on Ashton Lane the main hub of the west end so it’s a perfect spot for our weekly socials and shinnanigans….what more could you want I hear you cry?

Well, we get free food once a week (I hear the pizzas are pretty top notch), they’re giving us £500 throughout the year to help us with our debts, and last but by no means not least we get VIPER GUEST LIST on a Wednesday night, saving you a whole £3 which you can put to much better use at the bar. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

New Site

12th June 2007

Glasgow Take 2nd Place at SUSA Yachting!

By Doug Toy
28th March 2007

Strength and Honour!

Last weekend 8 of GUSC's finest sailors competed in SUSA Yachting and exceeded all expectations. With no thought for there own personal safety they battled against ten of the best university yachting teams from across the U.K. and ended up finishing second. An incredible achievement!

The team consisted of Rog, Wee Dave, Fred Girl, That guy Guy, Granpa, Nikki, Miss Palmer and me, "Carrot!" Having never raced as a team before everyone coped extremely well and by the end of the competition had the boat sailing fast. Next year with more practice at hoisting/gybing and dropping the kite there's no reason why we shouldn't win and send another GUSC team to the worlds.

The team would like to congratulate Strathclyde on winning the competition and wish them all the best when they compete at the worlds later on this year.
