Yacht Racing

Glasgow University Sailing Club is currently the top Scottish University yachting club, this year representing Scotland at the Student Yachting Worlds, held in France, from the 21st to the 28th of October. We are very proud of our yachting team and our aim is to continue our winning ways. Worlds Campaign Site

Fleet Racing

Aside from the boozing GUSC actually have a very good and competitive yachting team. As mentioned before they are currently the top Scottish team, representing their country later this year in France. We hold team trials every year to select the best possible 8 sailors for the yachting team. For this sailing experience is required and we recommend that you have some racing experience or are at least up to Day Skipper qualification level or skill. The team train together throughout the year at local events and then compete in Portsmouth at BUSA yachting. The winners of this event get to represent their country at the Student Yachting Worlds.

Match Racing

GUSC also have match racing teams, again team trials are held for these teams at the beginning of the academic year. Each team consists of 4 sailors, with specific jobs in the boat. Depending on the level of interest we often have 1st, 2nd and 3rd match racing teams. In Scotland we compete in sonars at the Royal Northern in Helensburgh, and occasionally on 707s in Edinburgh. Last year one of our teams qualified for the British finals (normally sailed on J80s) and this is our aim again for this year.
